Website Design for Photographers
You're the one trade where the website is the portfolio. Everyone knows that, which is why photographers usually end up with one of two problems: a beautiful site that takes eleven seconds to load, or a template that flattens their work into the same grid as everyone else's.
Both cost bookings. The first one loses people before a single photo appears. The second means nobody can tell you apart.
What's included
Five pages, live by day five:
- A home page that leads with your work and loads fast enough that people see it.
- A portfolio page built so big images arrive quickly on a phone on mobile data.
- A page for each thing you shoot, weddings, families, business portraits, because those are three different customers searching three different phrases.
- An about page, which for a wedding photographer is the page that closes the booking. People are choosing who to spend twelve hours with.
- A contact page that makes asking about a date easy.
Plus an email address on your own domain, a social card so your link looks right when it's shared, and a dashboard where you swap the portfolio yourself after a good shoot.
Hosting, backups and security are free for two months, then $5 a month.
Why it matters for photographers
Speed is a portfolio decision. A gallery that loads slowly isn't a slow website. It's a smaller portfolio, people leave before they reach the good ones. Getting big images to arrive fast on a phone is the main technical job on a photographer's site, and it's the one templates usually fail.
Your terms are a selling point. Full-resolution gallery, no watermarks, two-week turnaround. Photographers are often shy about stating these and clients care enormously, because they've all heard a story about waiting four months for their wedding photos.
Links get shared constantly. A bride sends your site to her mother, her sister and three friends. When that link lands in a message it should unfurl with your name and a proper image, not a grey box. That's the social card, and it's included.
Weddings and portraits are different businesses. Same camera, different customer, different search. Separate pages let you speak to each one properly instead of splitting the difference.
